Lord mayor says e-scooter companies could be banned over haphazard riding

Tom Elliott

Lord mayor Sally Capp says it’s possible e-scooter companies could be stripped of their licences to operate in Melbourne.

Press PLAY below to hear what the lord mayor had to say about e-scooters

Councillor Capp will put forward a motion at a council meeting on Tuesday calling for an investigation into what “regulatory and enforcement agreements” would make the e-scooter operations viable in the long-term.

The motion is in response to the “many” messages Cr Capp has received from Melburnians concerned about e-scooters being ridden illegally on footpaths and left blocking footpaths.

NEIL MITCHELL: “Is there any chance that if they can’t comply the companies will lose their licence to have the scooters in Melbourne?”

SALLY CAPP: “That’s what we’ll be considering on Tuesday night.”

NEIL MITCHELL: “So it’s a possibility?”

SALLY CAPP: “Yeah.”
