Following a decision by the Victorian Independent Renumeration Tribunal, politicians will receive a 3.5 per cent pay rise next month.

Neil Mitchell says while “you can argue it … on the movement of inflation”, he doesn’t think politicians deserve pay hikes.

“If you look at the figures anywhere in industry, any worker is likely to deserve a pay rise … but they’re not getting them because times are tough,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

“In the real world, with a report card like that there would be no pay rise, there probably would be no job!”
