On Wednesday, the Rumour File heard taxpayers may foot a $70,000 bill linked to the lease of a building in Geelong, intended for use in preparation for the now cancelled Commonwealth Games.

A government spokesperson says negotiations were underway but a contract for the Brougham Street building was never signed.
