A recent report has revealed Australia’s healthcare sector is facing a shortfall of workers in the next decade with potential for it to double by 2050.

Chief executive officer of Zonda Group, Dr Byron Van Gisborne says there are a few reasons for why the sector is not attracting workers.

“In the industry, through COVID, a lot of workers were burnt-out having to do extra shifts,” he told Tony Moclair.

A cosmetics nurse who used to work in the public healthcare system for 25 years says she’s had enough.

Tracey says staff are treated like numbers on a payroll.

“The general public are really good, but the top end of town have absolutely no concept of what happens in a hospital,” she said.
