Why a speech has sparked a proposal to ‘re-balance’ tax

The tax system has received criticism by the out-going chief executive officer of the Grattan Institute, Danielle Wood, who says young people are getting “screwed.”

Senior associate at the Grattan Institute’s economic policy program, Joey Moloney, says Australia needs to ask itself how it’s going to pay for a long-term structural budget challenge with an ageing population.

“One of the things we’ve observed in our tax system over the years, is that it has sort of shifted a larger share of the burden onto the young,” he told Neil Mitchell.
