Housing forum: Experts weigh in on housing crisis gripping the nation

Tom Elliott

With migration forecast to increase Australia’s population by half a million this year, and Melbourne’s rental vacancy rate sitting at only 0.8 per cent, there are growing concerns over the nation’s housing shortage.

CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria Quentin Kilian and Domain national property editor Alice Stoltz joined Neil Mitchell to unpack the challenges in the housing market and share their views on what can be done to improve the situation.

Mr Kilian says landlords in lower socioeconomic areas are selling up due to land tax changes and so affordable rental properties are “disappearing”.
