Tom Elliott takes aim at the ‘nanny state’ over proposed alcohol package changes

Jacqui Felgate

It’s one of Tom Elliott’s pet hates, and it’s back in the limelight today ? the nanny state.

The 3AW Drive host has hit out at a recommendation from the Cancer Council, which wants graphic images of liver damage put on alcohol packaging to warn people about the long-term dangers of drinking.

‘How long until junk food has the same thing? A bag of lollies?’ Tom Elliott said.

‘When will people start taking responsibility for their own consumption, whether it’s alcohol, tobacco, whether it’s Macca’s, whether it’s lollies.

‘Seriously, does anybody out there not realise that drinking too much is bad for you?

‘I understand what the Cancer Council is doing, but they are treating people like children.’
