Geelong detectives have charged a 20-year-old man after a violent aggravated burglary in the early hours of New Years Day.

A member of the public found a woman with serious injuries on a Torquay Road nature strip at around 3:15am yesterday morning.

The man is accused of entering the women’s home and assaulting her, before stealing her car and crashing it into a garage in the nearby suburb of Hamlyn Heights, where he was arrested.
