Figures have revealed more than 100,000 people permanent and long-term arrived in Australia in January despite a plan to slow immigration numbers.

Chief economist and co-founder of MacroBusiness, Leith Van Onselen, says immigration numbers are far too high and are contributing to the extreme rental crisis.

“According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics latest national accounts for the fourth quarter … Australia’s population grew by 680,000 people last calendar,” he told Ross and Russ.

He says with the number of homes built last year, that accounts to “one home to 1.5 people,” he said.
