‘Get a grip!’: Why a council in Victoria’s south west is getting slammed for asking residents a question

3AW Mornings

The City of Greater Geelong has been criticised for asking Port Arlington residents whether they’d be interested in paying for footpaths despite already paying rates.

Council Watch president, Dean Hurlston, says it’s a PR disaster and urged the council to “get a grip”.

“In a cost-of-living-crisis, to be writing to residents, and asking them to contribute anywhere from $500 to $4000 per household … it just doesn’t go well,” he told Tony Jones, filling for Tom Elliott.
