Tom Elliott believes the Suburban Rail Loop could be a financial disaster for Victoria, dubbing it “the next Commonwealth Games”.

The federal government opted not to allocate extra funding to the major rail project during this week’s budget, leaving a $20 billion shortfall.

The 3AW Mornings host says the prospects for the plan looks to be in disarray.

“I hate to say I told you so about this,” Tom said on 3AW.

“The Suburban Rail Loop looks like it could be the next Commonwealth Games – and by that I mean a cancelled financial debacle here in Victoria.”
