A Merri-bek councillor has announced a proposal which would result in increased council rates for property investors.

Senior financial planner at Rising Tide Financial Services, Matt Hale, says the proposal is unlikely to improve first-home buyers chances of getting into the market.

“There’s a lot of “rent-vestors” as well, people that are buying and then choosing to rent somewhere for their lifestyle … so it’s not as if every investor is a fat cat with 10 properties,” he told Ross and Russ.
