2017 is forecast to be a bumper year for Australian farmers with production expected to exceed $60 billion for the first time. 

The boom is being pushed by increasing exports and rising sheep and cattle prices. 

President of the Victorian Farmers Federation David Jo-Hinkey tells 3AW Breakfast’s Justin and Kate the red meat sector is booming.

‘Sheep and cattle are probably the two main leaders, and goat as well. They’re covering a large area of Australia, when we have a good wet season like we saw last year, that means we can grow grass, therefore having recovery in that sector.’

David says, ‘Also, you’ve got that demand internationally for red meats as well.’
