The big incentives being offered to help recruit more prison workers

The state government is offering sizeable incentives to help recruit more people to work in Victorian prisons.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, sign-on bonuses of $8,000 are now avaliable for new workers in the Western Plains or Hopkins Correctional Centre, while a one-off $5,000 bonus is also avaliable to work in other facilities.

Barwon Prisons Operations Manager Corey Stipcevich told Heidi Murphy he would recommend the work to anyone who was interested in joining the industry.

“The priority at this stage is filling the right people to find (vacant) positions,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“I love the people I work with, I think it’s the best part of the job.”
