Onlookers have been shocked after hundreds of hoons converged on a major intersection in Melbourne’s south-east.

The incident unfolded in Chelsea Heights on Tuesday night, where hundreds gathered at a planned event on the corner of Wells Road and Thames Boulevard to watch burnouts.

“Imagine driving along in Chelsea Heights only to be confronted by a seemingly out-of-control vehicle,” Shane McInnes said on 3AW Afternoons.

“It’s intimidating and, quite frankly, frightening for many.”
