Shane McInnes thinks it’s time for Melbourne to clean up the Yarra River and make it swimmable.

The idea comes after the Seine River in Paris was opened for swimming for the first time since 1923, following a clean-up operation built around last year’s Olympics.

He says it’s time for Melbourne to look at a similar idea with swimming spots built around much-loved outdoor meeting spots.

“I think it would be awesome,” he said on 3AW Afternoons.

“Imagine a couple of public baths, maybe one off Birrarung Marr, another near Arbory Afloat, maybe one down near the Polly Woodside.”
