Tom Elliott weighs in on the state government’s plan to knock down public housing high-rises
Tom Elliott is urging the state government to go further with their plans for public housing.
He says the land should be sold to private developers and new public housing buildings should be built in outer Melbourne.
“Yes, the people who live in the high-rise flats won’t like it, they won’t be living anymore in inner-Melbourne, but when you’re getting a house for free or for very cheap, you don’t argue about where it is,” he said.

Yarra City Council mayor Stephen Jolly says it is more expensive for the government to tear down the towers than it would be to refurbish them.
“The government haven’t provided any evidence whatsoever to back up these claims that these towers are in dire straits,” he said.
