A political sociologist says a neo-Nazi protest at the weekend is indicative of “a broader issue… in our democracy”.

About 100 masked people marched through Melbourne’s city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Associate Professor of Politics at Deakin University, Joshua Roose, told Tom Elliott the group behind the protest hasn’t grown markedly in size in recent years, but some of their actions have “strong historic parallels with the 1930s”, and they’re considering forming a political party.
