A major road maintenance blitz is getting underway around the state, but a new press release by the state government on the blitz has caught Jacqui Felgate’s attention.

The ‘Better Roads Blitz’ is part of a $976 million package to fix potholes and upgrade road surfaces along the Western Highway, the Princes Highway, the Hume, the Calder, and down to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway as well.

But the 3AW Drive host noticed the new press release is very similar to the one released close to 12 months ago.

Press PLAY to hear the ‘tricky little play’ from the state government

“Don’t be fooled, this is not new money,” Felgate said.

“They couldn’t even come up with new wording in the release.”

Shadow Minister for Roads and Safety, Danny O’Brien, confirmed it’s not new money and provided insight into previous announcements by the Labor government on road maintenance.

“People shouldn’t get too excited, because we’ve been doing this under Labor now for at least the last six years, and our roads are still in a terrible state.”
