A leading restaurateur has proposed a temporary ban on protests in Melbourne’s CBD after two years of constant protest activity.

CEO of Lucas Restaurants Chris Lucas says he’s surprised a lot of small businesses haven’t closed down due to the protests.

“We have this anarchistic behaviour going on weekend after weekend after weekend, with no end in sight, which is also ruining our busy weekend trade which is what we rely on to be able to keep the doors open,” he told Tom Elliott.

State political reporter at The Age Chip Le Grand says there’s a sense the city needs a circuit-breaker.

“It’s such an engraved pattern now, where the same people are coming into the city every week and disrupting the place,” he told Ross and Russ.
