Tom Elliott has come across an “odd” policy proposal from the federal Liberal Party in an attempt to help boost the birth rate, which has hit a record low.

The 3AW Mornings host has pointed out there is precedent for the policy, which has caused some debate.

Co-founder of For Parents, Jennifer Flemming, says Australians need to be incentivised to have more children, and some grandparents could need support.

“This isn’t always about grandparents, and some grandparents aren’t in a position to retire yet,” she said.
