Oscar Piastri has given up the lead of the Formula 1 championship after a dominant win in Mexico by teammate Lando Norris.

The Australian has been well off in the pace in recent weeks despite having the same car as Norris, leading to several online theories about why that may be the case.

“His car is not just as quick as what it was,” Channel 9 sports presenter Tony Jones said.

“Piastri said it was a mystery, and that opened a can of worms with a whole raft of conspiracy theories on social media.”

3AW Breakfast sports reporter Jon Anderson also weighed in on Piastri losing the lead to Norris.

“It is a disaster whichever way you look at it, and doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Anderson said.
