Officers were alerted just after 8pm that a fire truck had allegedly been stolen from the Bolton Rural Fire Service sheds.
The vehicle crossed the border at Tocumwal, bypassed Shepparton, and continued along the Goulburn Valley Highway, where stop sticks were successfully deployed.
As the tyres deflated, the truck continued to Puckapunyal Army Base.
It is alleged that the truck drove through the security control point and stopped on base before the driver exited the truck.
The driver then encountered a security guard completing routine patrols and allegedly stole his unattended vehicle and continued to drive further on the base.
Stop sticks were successfully used again, and the man was arrested by the police.
