Tom Elliott has fired up over the Welcome to Country that was performed before the AFLW preliminary final between Brisbane and Carlton on Saturday night, labelling it “completely inappropriate”.

The Welcome to Country was performed by Louisa Bonner, and the 3AW Mornings host said it was about “90 per cent politics”.

“It was absolutely wrong,” he said.

“The AFL needs to have a good, hard look at itself.

“How could they possibly think that was appropriate before a football game?”

President of the AFL Fans Association, Ron Issko, then spoke about his experience with Welcome to Country ceremonies, and the fan survey the association did recently on the topic.
