Two monuments in Flagstaff Gardens have been vandalised.

3AW crime reporter Madelaine Burke told Ross and Russel “the damage is pretty severe”.

“One is the First Pioneers memorial, which has been physically pulled down.

“The other is a separation monument. Both are covered in red paint.”

Victoria Police assert that the monuments were vandalised between 10pm and 6am overnight.

Melbourne lord mayor, Nicholas Reece, then blasted the vandalism on 3AW Drive.

“It’s absolutely infuriating,” Reece told Jacqui Felgate.
