Tom Elliott has pointed out a “good idea” from the Northern Territory government that he would like to see Victorian schools consider.

Press PLAY to find out what caught the 3AW Mornings host’s attention

The 3AW Mornings host said, “When I went to school, we sang the national anthem at least once every week.”

“The Northern Territory government, I think, has made a positive step,” he added.

Northern Territory Minister for Education and Training, Jo Hersey, told 3AW Mornings the decision was announced after a “very proud Australia Day,” telling Tom Elliott, “This is no different to when I went to school, how we sang the national anthem, and you stood up there, and you sang it with pride.”

Press PLAY to hear the full explanation of how the decision was reached

National Secretary of the Teachers Association of Victoria, Edward Schuller, told 3AW Mornings, “I think you see it throughout our education system.”

“There needs to be widespread reform because we’re sort of only taught, we’re only teaching children one side of our history.”
