A former detective who investigated the gangland war between Carl Williams and the Moran family has lifted the lid on what really happened during the infamous conflict.

Former Purana Taskforce Detective Stuart Bateson told Sly and 3AW Breakfast there were times he feared for his safety.

“There was times when we became aware that they were following or trying to follow us,” he said.
