Victoria Police Commissioner Mike Bush has addressed the media following a police operation carried out in Victoria’s north-east this morning.

The commissioner acknowledged that the Summit taskforce operation was a response to the shooting of two Victoria Police officers, but was unable to confirm that the individual who was fatally shot by police was Dezi Freeman.

The 3AW Mornings host said that it is a good thing that he was finally caught.

In a statement, the Police Association Victoria spokesperson said “Our members said they would find him. They did. Closure isn’t the right word. This represents a step forward for our members, for the families of our fallen members and for the community.”

Freeman was wanted by police for over six months for the fatal shooting of two police officers.
