Skipping to scrolling: The sign getting kids offline and outside
Melbourne’s most iconic neon sign is set to be transformed, with a replacement being switched on from today.
The “Skipping Girl” is set to be replaced with a new sign dubbed the “Scrolling Girl” in a move to encourage kids to get off social media.
Speaking on 3AW Breakfast, Lauren Jumps, physical activity advocate and global skipping icon, said that finding a balance between social media and physical activity is key.

“Kids are scrolling too much on their phones. And I think with skipping, it’s such a good choice of sport because it’s so engaging”, Jumps said.
The Skipping Girl … a heritage listed landmark … has been seen in the Melbourne skyline since 1936.
