66 body bags were displayed on the steps of Parliament House on Monday to represent the 66 Australian lives lost every day as a result of tobacco.

The protest aims to highlight that these deaths are entirely preventable and coincided with the Senate inquiry to ensure that the human cost of tobacco remains a priority in policy discussions.

“If you’re comfortable making all cigarettes cheaper, you’re comfortable with more people dying from smoking,” Laura Hunter, CEO of Australian Council on Smoking and Health, told Tom Elliott.
