The much discussed Suburban Rail Loop is making headlines once again, as the federal government has promised billions towards its completion.

The railway has been a topic of contention within governments for years, with questions now being raised if it is now worth completing, or should be written off completely.

3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott was joined by CEO of Hale Infra Strategy and transport and infrastructure expert, Dr Chris Hale, who said that the project’s completion is valuable to the people 0f Melbourne’s east.

Press PLAY to hear what the funds will go towards

“We need to be chasing that federal funding and seeing it as an investment in our communities instead of being conservative, backward naysayers and letting Sydney get all the money,” Dr Hale said.

The SRL originally commenced in mid 2022, with the project completion expected to be in 2035.
