The increase of violence towards paramedics on duty across Victoria has left many workers feeling emotionally scarred and unable to return to work.

Recent horrific incidents include a man stabbing a male paramedic in the neck while he was getting a coffee and a pregnant paramedic being punched in the stomach by a drug-affected patient.

Speaking on 3AW Mornings with Tom Elliott, Secretary of the Victorian Ambulance Union Danny Hill said the incidents have had a “chilling effect” on the workforce.

“I have zero sympathy for all the drug users … they’re a menace to themselves and I might add in many cases a menace to society,” the 3AW Mornings host said.
