‘Not a piggy bank for politicians’: Tom Elliott blasts minister’s taxpayer-funded ‘business’ trip
Australia’s Communications Minister, Anika Wells, is under fire for attending an ‘official meeting’ at a family birthday of a South Australian Labor Minister, flying business class to get there – which was paid for by taxpayers.
The minister was earlier in the year slammed for taking a $100,000 trip to New York to pitch the under-16s social media ban.
Tom Elliott voiced his outrage towards this “entitled” behaviour, saying that “the taxpayer is not a piggy bank for politicians private trips”.

Director of Transparency Warrior, Rex Patrick, said that these sort of situations have a significant effect on “people’s trust and faith in politics”, and that “ministers should always be held to the highest of standards”.
