A unknown man has been arrested after making a threatening phone call warning of a potential event in Melbourne’s CBD.

It is believed that he made an anonymous phone call to Channel 9 in Sydney where he warned of an incident on Bourke St, who promptly contacted Crime Stoppers.

Victoria Police Media Officer John McLaughlan told 3AW Breakfast that uniform officers and the Critical Incident Response Team located the individual in front of a fast-food restaurant on Swanston St just after 7:30.

“And while the investigation is ongoing, there is no ongoing threat to the community,” McLaughlan said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated, with the 31-year-old set to be interviewed.
