Melbourne Airport is set for a shake up as the pick-up/drop-off system is being changed.

The change is set to stop drivers from dropping off or picking up passengers at the terminal, and the new spot will be located a 400 metres away from the doors of the airport.

Spokesperson for Melbourne Airport, Andrew Lund, said despite concerns for those with mobility issues not being able to make the distance between the drop off and the terminal, the airport is adopting a traveller aid system to factor these concerns in.

“We’ve got far more people using the airport now than we did in 1970, so we need that space to accommodate all the people who are coming through,” Lund said.

Airports around the globe have adopted similar systems.
