A drone mishap at Sydney’s Vivid Festival has called into question the reliability of the technology.

Following a mistake with the radio frequency controlling the drones, 89 of them ended up being sent into the harbour surrounding Cockle Bay.

Speaking on 3AW Afternoons, The Drone Lawyer at MacMillan Lawyers and Advisors, Tom Pils, said that it is still relatively new technology that needs more regulation.

“If a drone falls and lands on you, you actually have a claim because they are currently considered a small aircraft,” Pils said.

A similar incident occurred at a Melbourne drone show that was celebrating the Matildas left over 400 drones in the Yarra River.
