Australia’s new number one travel destination has been revealed, as holidaymakers flock in droves.

China has taken out the top spot according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, soaring 17 per cent in the last year.

Appearing on 3AW Afternoons, CEO of the Australian Travel Association, Dean Long, told Tony Moclair that the Chinese government’s tourism efforts have contributed to the rise.

“Who would have thought that you would need to give the Chinese government less information than the American government, to be able to enter the country”, Long said.

China has overtaken traditional Aussie hot spots including Thailand, the US and the UK.
