Labor MPs will go to Jacinta Allan on Monday asking her to step aside as premier after a meeting on Sunday night of factional leaders declared she had lost the support of the caucus.

The Age state political editor Chip Le Grand told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft all eyes would be on Ben Carroll.

“A matter of weeks ago he ruled himself out but over the last couple of days you’ve had a number of colleagues going to him, urging him to reconsider,” he said.

Political reporter Heidi Murphy told Elliott the premier has no plans to resign this close to the election and believes she still has the backing of her colleagues.

“She will be trying to use cabinet today to come up with some hail mary policies,” Murphy said.
