‘He knew’: Details of government’s ‘secret’ public transport levy exposed
The Auditor-General has exposed a secret levy on public transport fares to raise money for the Suburban Rail Loop and other Big Build projects.
The Age chief state political reporter Chip Le Grand told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft the public transport levy was a sham.

“One, they didn’t tell us about it, and two, as I said, the whole thing is a bit of a sham in terms of how it is set up,” he said.
3AW presenter Heidi Murphy told 3AW host Shane McInnes Ben Carroll has apologised and said he will abolish the tax, but wouldn’t answer any questions about his own involvement in the process.

“He knew about the levy, he knew that it was being kept secret, he knew about the decision to keep it secret,” she said.
