The Albanese government is considering an import ban on “smart glasses”.

Monash University professor of cyber security Nigel Phair told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft he did not think a ban was feasible.

“I really don’t know how we are going to, as a society as a whole, tackle this,” he said.

Human rights lawyer Lizzie O’Shea told 3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott producers of smart glasses have some responsibility to protect privacy and personal data.

“People who make money off these kinds of products and services need to be thinking pretty carefully about how they can introduce design changes that protect people,” she said.
