Mike Bush urges frontline officers to adhere to bail laws despite cell overcrowding
Chief Commissioner Mike Bush has warned frontline officers to adhere strictly to bail laws and ignore statewide station cell overcrowding when making custody decisions.
Nine’s Today reporter Christine Ahern told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft frontline officers had been told not to let overcrowding influence their decision to bail an alleged criminal.

“What obviously the state’s top brass doesn’t want is police to say, ‘look, we’ve got no room for this fella, so we’re going to give him bail’,” she said.
