The Carroll government’s work from home legislation has stalled in parliament, after a push to refer the controversial laws to an inquiry.

Members of the crossbench and the Coalition teamed up to refer the legislation to a parliamentary committee, to allow for more scrutiny.

“It’s been a big twist and turn of events,” Stefanie Waclawik, 3AW political reporter, told Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

There is just one sitting week left for the year, meaning the inquiry is unlikely to return to parliament before the election, dragging out the legislation to next year, and a future government.

Victorian head of the Australian Industry Group, Tim Piper, welcomed the stalling of the legislation.

“Common sense has prevailed here,” Mr Piper said.
