Police will be given sweeping new powers to search for knives under ‘Jack’s Law’ if Labor is re-elected in November.

Brett Beasley, the father of 2019 fatal knife attack victim Jack Beasley, told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft that the news was long overdue.

“It’s been a long time in the making for us – we’ve been fighting for the police to have these powers down there in Victoria,” he said.

Sly of the Underworld then had his say on the news, stating the “very powers that were knocked back are now great ideas”.
