An eight-year-old boy booked in for open heart surgery has been turned away due to a lack of beds at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The boy’s uncle Adrian told Tom Elliott his nephew was ready to go when the surgery was cancelled last minute.

“Today was supposed to be the day,” Adrian said on 3AW Mornings.

Press PLAY to hear him talk through the unfortunate situation

“The surgeon is in absolute disgust I think with the hospital.”

The story comes as Premier Ben Carroll toured the hospital earlier this morning, spruiking the new emergency department’s impending opening.
