Seven News Melbourne reporter and 3AW personality, Nick McCallum, has provided an update on the condition of Federal MP Helen Haines.

McCallum is outside the Alfred Hospital, and told Jacqui Felgate the whole situation is “absolutely appalling”.

Multiple sources have confirmed Haines has had a leg amputated, with surgeons trying to save the other leg after she was struck by a car in Wangaratta yesterday.

The 65-year-old remains in a critical condition, while police have arrested the alleged offender, identified as 43-year-old Brendan Nugent.
