A Labor MP has been taken from parliament in an ambulance after he started convulsing.

Daniel Mulino became ill following a marathon sitting in the upper house.

MPs stayed there overnight to debate the controversial assisted dying bill.

Debate has been suspended.

Mr Mulino is said to be responding well to treatment.
