A refugee on Manus Island says he didn’t make the trek to Australia to “live in a prison.”

It comes as PNG police and armed forces stormed the facility after hundreds of men refused to leave, despite no access to water or electricity for weeks.

The Australian Government says new “accommodation” has been made available.

But speaking with Neil Mitchell, Behrouz Boochani said accommodation wasn’t the right term.

“Those places are prisons,” he said.

“We’re not going to live in these prisons.

“We didn’t come to Australia to live in prison forever.”

The AFP has confirmed it has officers on the island in a “liason” role, but Mr Boochani said they were helping “destroy” belongings, bed and shelter.

“They are a part of this,” he claimed.
