Pension changes hit Victorians hard

Tom Elliott

About 25,000 Victorians will be stripped of discounts on rates, car registrations and train travel in what’s been described as a double-hit for pensioners.

New analysis of the Commonwealth’s revised pension assets test has found that some will not only lose their part pension but also some key state and local government concessions.

Chief Executive of Council on the Ageing Ian Yates told Tony Jones the changes will hit some harder than others.

‘In some states most people are not affected in their concession by this change.

‘In other states, a raft of concessions are directly affected.’
