A large-scale piece of artwork is being developed for the Southbank precinct,

The project is part of the proposed revamp of the area, at an  estimated cost of $2 million for ratepayers in the City of Melbourne.

Associate Professor Christopher Marshall, head of art history at the University of Melbourne, told Ross and John it’s up to the artist to show their creative interpretations.

“Let’s leave it up to the artist to see what they come up with,” he said.

“It won’t just be a case of making a nice strong sculpture, it will probably be quite a complicated thing and it might involve quite complex technology.

“It’s got to seize the public’s imagination in some way and it’s also got to express the dynamism and vitality of that precinct.”

Ross: “It’s got to be a showstopper!”
