A young schoolgirl hit by a car in Doncaster last night has died in hospital.

The child, 8, was attempting to cross Victoria Street, north of George Street, about 630pm when she was struck.

The driver of the car, a 64-year-old Doncaster East woman, stopped and helped the girl at the scene.

She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later died.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the pedestrian prior to the crash, or anyone who may have dash cam footage.
